| BACKGROUND
The Banana Splits was possibly
one of the best Saturday morning shows ever. They were real live
guys in animal suits, lip-syncing
to bizarre Bubblegum pop/soul music. I am now finally giving into
popular demand and presenting this
tribute to The Banana Splits. I guess I can justify bending the
rules by saying, that although The
Splits are not cartoon characters they were the hosts of a show
that presented great cartoons like
The
3 Musketeers, The Arabian Knights,Microventure,The Hillbilly
Bears & Danger Island.
The show ran on NBC Saturday mornings
from September 7, 1968 to September 5, 1970. The
Saturday morning version was an
hour long and was originally titled, The Banana Splits Adventure
Hour.When the show went into syndication
in 1971 it was used to showcase other HB material each
day of the week:The Adventures
of Gulliver,Secret Squirrel,Atom Ant,The New Adventures Of
Huckleberry Finn and of course
The
Banana Splits & Friends which featured segments from the
Saturday morning show. |
