BACKGROUND

The brainchild of Dalek creator Terry Nation, Blakes 7 was an action packed space opera made
with limitations of a BBC budget but crammed with rich characterization and gripping stories.
The show followed the exploits of resistance leader Roj Blake and his band of anti-heroes who
would stop at nothing to destroy the corrupt Terran Federation. Regularly pulling in UK audiences
of around ten million,it became a firm favourite with fans and the public alike and has never
deminished in popularity.

Aimed at an adult audience as opposed to the BBC's other show Doctor Who, the 52 episodes
followed a story arc with the final climatic scene as Avon stands over the dead body of Blake
is still one of the best endings ever to be seen in a series.

There is talk of a Blakes 7 sequel film being discussed. It is based on a continuing story set twenty
years after the last episode with Avon a political prisoner but living in luxury until he hears
about a group of freedom fighters being led by someone calling himself Blake.

TRIVIA FAX
Paul Darrow has appeared in Doctor Who twice with The Silurians and Timelash. Jacqueline Pearce
was in The Two Doctors and Micheal Keating in The Sunmakers. Gareth Thomas appears in the
Big Finish audio drama Storm Warning with Paul McGann.

The Daleks nearly appeared in series 3...(that would have been interesting!)

The cast were totally unaware their was to be a 4th series and only found out when an announcer
told the public at the end of Terminal

The film Star Trek-Generations totally ripped off the last episode of Blake's 7 when the Enterprise
crashes on Viridium 2 just as the Scorpio did 13 years earlier...the BBC should have sued!

Future Doctor Who Colin Baker appears as Bayban the Butcher in the episode City at the Edge of the World

Two BBC Audio Dramas were produced in the 1990's, The Sevenfold Crown and The Syndeton Experiment.

J.Micheal Straczynski has said that Blakes' 7 was one of the series that influenced him to make
the sci-fi epic Babylon 5
