BACKGROUND

Bringing the Ape franchise to the small screen must have seemed a good idea at the time but
like most good thoughts, it doesn't always translate into a fleshed reality.

With the same premise as in the movies, Astronauts Virdon amd Burke are thrust a thousand
years into the future where they encounter a world ruled by Apes and the human population are
no more than slaves.

Although a typical action aeries, it did try and capture some of the films themes,it did little to
expand the myth and lasted a mere fourteen episodes.

TRIVIA FAX

Roddy McDowell is the only actor to make the transition from the movies to the TV show.

Mark Lenard who plays Urko, is perhaps better known as Ambassador Sarek in the Star Trek series.

Episodes were edited together as the TV movies Back to the Planet of the Apes, The
Forgotten City of the Planet of the Apes, Treachery and Greed on the Planet of the Apes,
Farewell to the Planet of the Apes and most bizzarly Life, Liberty and Pursuit on the Planet of
the Apes.

Director Tim Burton (Batman, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow) unleashed his 'reimagined' Planet of
the Apes movie in 2001...even great directors are allowed an off-day!
