BACKGROUND

The Grandaddy of TV Science Fiction, these were a landmark in British television and
paved the way of things that were yet to come.

So far there have been four serials in the adventures of Professor Bernard Quatermass, three
for the BBC and one for Euston Films some twenty years later. Created by Nigel Kneale in
1953, these early stories were far removed from the traditional drama series that were being
produced at the time and offered the viewer a chance to actually think about a show even
when the final credits rolled!
