BACKGROUND

It was over twenty years before anyone picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Patrick
McGoohan in 1967 with The Prisoner, and although David Lynch & Mark Frost were
obviously not directly inspired by it, this was with out a doubt the first television that
has had the same impact (Albeit with a different message).

David Lynch was such a cult director at the time, that anything he put his name to was
bound to be a run a way success, unfortunately when Laura Palmer's murderer was found,
many viewers just tuned out (which is a shame, because the story was just beginning).

For most, the show was Strange and complicated at best, but for more open minded
lovers of the weird and wonderful. Each episode resembled a mini-film, setting an example
for most television series to come (X-Files broke on the scene shortly afterwards, bearing
an uncanny artistic resemblance to Twin Peaks).

Easing into cult status, Twin Peaks still retains its popularity throughout the World, sparking
endless revivals and social gatherings.
