Marq English answers the Frequently Asked Questions about Spiral Paranormal

How do I contact Spiral?
You can contact the team via the email link on the main page.

Why do you film the investigations?
As a professional filmmaker, I prefer to show the details visually of an investigation as opposed to written reports. This hopefully builds up a relationship with the team and engages you in the investigation.

How long are the episodes?
The duration of the Spiral episodes can be anything from 10 – 20 minutes with extra footage and Podiaries around 5 minutes.

Where can I view the episodes?
All episodes and Podiaries are free to download from the Spiral website or viewed on our YouTube page - selected episodes have also been screened on The Unexplained Channel (Sky TV 201).

What formats can I download them as?
The episodes can be downloaded in both wmv and mp4 formats.

Do you film other people’s projects?
Yes, I have filmed projects for parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O’Keeffe and Steve Parsons of Para.Science, paranormal historian Richard Felix, David Wells, medium Val Hood and companies such as Compass Paranormal Events, Famous and Frightened and Fright Nights.
If you are interested in having a project filmed, please contact me here.

Do you just film ghost investigations?
Mainly yes as this is our main interest although we have episodes covering Crop Circles and interviews about UFO’s.

Do all the locations you visit have reports of paranormal activity?
No, sometimes a property will present itself that says it is haunted although there are no specific accounts.

Do you visit the location before hand?
Most of the time yes but it is not always practical due to travel, distance and time.

Do you charge for investigations?
Absolutely not, we are a non-profit team and charging is against our ethics.

Do you do run public events?
No, we are not a commercial group and only do private investigations although I do work independently for Out There Media and various event companies such as Compass Paranormal Events.

How do you find your investigation venues?
We research into potential locations on the internet and from books and work out if it’s a practical venue to investigate.

Is there any reason why you investigate in the darkness?
There are a few reasons; one is that you are out of you’re comfort zone in the dark and much more alert to any alleged activity, also it is much easier to capture any potential evidence on camera. Another reason is that it is much quieter with much less external sound. Of course there is no rule of thumb that says you can’t investigate during the day (which we have done).

How many in the team?
There are nine regular members in the team although we do invite guests on occasions.

Are there any vacancies for team members at the moment?
Unfortunately we are not looking for new members at this time.

Can I join you on an investigation?
We don’t usually accept guests who we have not worked with before. This is not meant to sound rude but trust among the team is built up over time.

What equipment do you use?
We use DV night vision camcorders, digital photography and digital voice recorders as well as locked-off DVR monitoring equipment.

Does the venue get a copy of the footage?
Yes, we very much like to send DVD’s to locations once the episode is completed.

Do you use psychic mediums?
Yes, our resident medium is Alan Barnett who has been with Spiral since June 2007. Alan works fully as part of the team and provides a guideline to any potential energy at a location.

Do you work with other groups and teams?
Yes, in fact we encourage the sharing of information and experiences. We have worked with many teams and get invited to join other people’s investigations.

Do you do undertake things like séances?
Yes we do conduct séances (or as I like to call them communication circles) as an experiment.

Do you use an Ouija board?
Not really no. There is a lot of misinformation about things such as Ouija boards and we think it is not a reliable form of experimentation although we have used them on occasion.

Do you’re mediums ever move a spirit on?
No. We personally don’t think this is possible and if it was, who are we to tell a spirit where to go?

Are there incidents of negative spirits becoming angry at what you are doing?
No. Once again we think this is misinformation caused by out of date points of views. We have never encountered anything that we thought was a threat even if the spirit was allegedly ‘bad’. We always treat spirit with respect though.
