INTRODUCTION Once again, Marq joined Phil Whyman’s Dead Haunted Nights Team at Peterborough Museum, a location that reputedly has at least ten spirits. Dating back to the 1800’s, the building was originally the home of Thomas Cooke and his wife Charlotte. From the mid 1850’s the property became the City of Peterborough’s first hospital (an infirmary), which lasted until 1928. This is a fascinating and historic place and we were all eager to see what the building would await us on the investigation.
WALK ROUND Once all the team had gathered, the Museum Liason Stuart Orme provided a tour of the building and informed us of the many alleged stories of spirit activity. The museum’s most well known spirit is that of Sergeant Thomas Hunter, an Australian soldier from WW1. Wounded during battle, he was brought to the then Peterborough Infirmary where he unfortunately died of his injuries and his spirit has been seen on numerous occasions, most prominently on the staircase. Other phenomena include a White Lady, phantom footsteps, light anomalies, poltergeist activity and cold spots. CELLAR / GROUND FLOOR Splitting into four Teams, Marq joined Team A with Phil, Sara and Stuart in the cellar. Being a cellar, it’s a naturally oppressive place and a malevolent spirit has been reported here. Not much happened here though and after a while we moved to the ground floor. We started off in the shop before heading to the stairway. Activity has been reported here so we sat patiently. Marq took various digital images and picked up some orbs. Nothing else was captured here although upstairs on the first floor; another Team member had caught a very large, bright light anomaly by the Old Shop. FIRST FLOOR After a break, we headed upstairs to the first floor. Marq, Laura and Mark started by the Old Shop, the site of the earlier light anomaly. The atmosphere was quite flat here so we regrouped with the others and attempted a Communication Circle in an exhibit cabinet that housed a Roman sword; an object with alleged paranormal activity. Being sensitive, Laura was receiving feelings of a child and this information seemed to affect another member of the circle (unfortunately, we can’t recall her name). This lady became very emotional and began to cry unexpectedly. Team Leader Vince was on hand to protect her as were we all and she said that this had never happened to her before and could not explain this immense emotional state she was experiencing. During this session, Laura felt a cold feeling along her left arm and Bex also felt breathless and her heart was racing. We closed the circle and the lady felt fine almost immediately. SECOND FLOOR After another break, Team A headed upstairs to the second floor. We entered the laboratory, which in days gone by had been used as a morgue. We stayed in here for a while but nothing occurred. Intrigued by the earlier Communication Circle on the first floor, we decided to perform another in one of the exhibit rooms. Laura began to sense feelings of an older lady who may have been connected to the property as a housekeeper when it was a residence. Laura then sensed a male energy that was pushing back the lady spirit, not in a malevolent way but as though the lady knew her place in the household. Laura also sensed a presence between Vince and Bex but nothing was caught on camera. BACK DOWN THE CELLAR The final hour of the investigation was conducted back in the cellar with Marq, Tim and various Team members attending. With reports of a dark spirit in this vicinity, Tim was quite forceful in getting a reaction from whatever may be lurking in the cellar’s dark passageway. Tim threw a piece of metal into one of the storerooms to see if anything would be thrown back. A little later, Marq felt a cold rush of air whisk past him but there were no nearby air vents and the main door was closed. We then heard very clearly what sounded like a piece of metal being dropped on the floor in the storeroom. No one was near this room and upon investigating, a bracket was found on the floor that hadn’t been there before. Tim believed he kept on seeing something moving down the passageway although nothing was caught on camera so this cannot be verified. CONCLUSION The Museum had been a fascinating location. Although it was generally a quiet evening, various phenomena had presented itself in the form of light anomalies and objects being thrown. This location definitely deserves further investigations (DHN have been here many times) and thanks to Phil Whyman, Dead Haunted Nights and Museum Liason Stuart Orme for an enjoyable evening at Peterborough Museum. |
