INTRODUCTION
Colchester is Britain’s oldest recorded town and was the first Roman Capitol.
The Red Lion Hotel was built in 1465 and the pub is said to have numerous spirits such as a young girl who haunts the
kitchen, a Monk who perished in a fire and the spirit of Alice Mellor who was killed in 1633. Mellor’s ghost is said to have
been so terrifying that her old room was sealed up and forgotten about. Some say that Alice was pushed out of the
bedroom window and even committed suicide! There is also a well-known fact that Alice was found in the cellar.
The Hotel was once a private residence and was called The White Lion before changing to its current name in 1633.

The Team in Room 10 The Hotel Lobby Orb in a rude position! Alan prepares for the night Orb above Alan's head

ROOM 10
Karen and Andy arrived at the hotel first and waited for Marq, Alan and Patricia to get there as they were stuck in traffic.
With the team eventually assembled, we were very interested in investigating Room 10, a location with much activity.
As we settled in the room, Alan was taking temperature readings and in some places the temperature dropped. We all
sat in the bedroom waiting and calling out with Alan capturing a few light anomalies by the armchair, the wardrobe and
by the bathroom door, also there were two light orbs by Marq’s jacket.
We continued to sit there listening, until we heard a rumble and loud footsteps coming from the bathroom. We all shot up
and headed there but the noise stopped. We all thought it was a boiler nearby but it was nothing in the vicinity. At this
point we all sat down again with Karen sitting on the step by the bathroom door. Once again, we heard the rumble and
loud footsteps. This time it lasted for about ten to fifteen seconds and sounded like a man with heavy big boots but
was coming from above us (where there’s only the roof).
We decided to go and have a break and we sat in the lounge area where the fireplace was (above us was Room 10).
Patricia pointed up at the chandelier, which was slightly moving. Alan was taking some pictures at the time and said
he could feel a young girl who rushes around all the time.
Karen sensed it was Alice Mellor as she had investigated here before. Karen pointed out that when she was here before
with another team, she did not hear any loud footsteps.
After our break, we all went back up stairs to Room 10. We tried a communication circle around a small table but although
nothing happened, the rumble and the loud footsteps were heard again. This happened intermittently about five times
and this audible was caught on camera and Marq's Dictaphone.
We headed to the bathroom where the noise seemed to come from as Marq suddenly had a shock to see what looked
like a person’s image by Karen…this proved to be a false alarm though as Marq realised it was his own refection in a
glass window by the bath. Although much laughter was made of this, it’s worth noting that in the dark, your eye’s
can obviously play tricks on you!

CONCLUSION
Although this was a short investigation, it was a very interesting night. This is the second time we have been with
Karen and Andrew and we all worked very well together. The footsteps and rumbling we heard was extraordinary
and the Red Lion Hotel seemed to hold more patrons than just the paying guests!
